Throughout the summit, we heard from several distinguished speakers who provided important updates and insights:
- Robert Oswell, WSIA President, spoke about the current state of the watersports industry.
- Lee Gatts, VP of Government Affairs, gave a Government Affairs and Advocacy Recap, highlighting the ongoing efforts to preserve our access to waterways.
- James Krawczyk, Director of Operations, shared updates on WSIA’s recent accomplishments and ongoing projects.
- Dr. Hartter delivered a compelling message on workforce environments and market dynamics affecting the industry.
I also attended committee meetings focused on equipment, wake parks, and camps and schools. These discussions dove into the intricate details of running a successful business in the watersports industry, allowing us to share insights and collaborate on best practices. As a business owner, these meetings were invaluable in helping me prepare for the future and continue providing the best experience for our customers.
Beyond the meetings, the networking opportunities were phenomenal. I had the chance to connect with other wake school owners, exchange ideas, and learn how they have overcome challenges similar to those we’ve faced. These conversations reinforced the importance of community and collaboration within our industry.
An added bonus was getting to spend two days snowboarding with both new and old friends. Sharing time on the mountain with fellow industry professionals was the perfect way to strengthen relationships and enjoy an activity that, like wakeboarding, brings us together through a shared passion for adventure.
The greatest highlight of the summit for me was being honored with a Leadership Award and Certificate of Excellence from WSIA. This recognition was made possible by the incredible customers who took the time to submit nomination letters, sharing their experiences with Kirby’s School of Wake. I was truly overjoyed and humbled by this award. To our customers and WSIA—thank you from the bottom of my heart!
Attending the WSIA Summit reinforced my commitment to progressing the watersports industry, advocating for its future, and continuously striving to provide the best possible experience for our students. I look forward to attending more WSIA events and continuing to build relationships with industry experts as we work together to grow and protect the sport we all love.
See you on the water – Kirby Liesmann
