FAQs
How do I schedule a lesson?
To schedule a lesson, please email our reservation department at info@kirbysschoolofwake.com or book now through our online booking service. Please be prepared to let us know the type of lesson you’d like to do, the number of participants, and if you’ll be needing equipment; in which case we will need each participant’s shoe size and height. Also, it is important that customer’s know that having Kirby as an instructor for events is not always guaranteed.
When is the best time to book?
The best time to book are early mornings or evenings. Week days are ideal as they are less busy on the lake, but we are now offering our weekend lessons back in the state park (in our Missouri location) for calmer, safer water conditions.
What is the cost of a lesson?
Private Lessons on the School of Wake Boat: $250 per hour on weekdays and $280 per hour on the weekends (We can bring a boat to you, however, the lesson time starts when the School of Wake boat leaves our dock to come to you and ends when it returns back to our dock– travel not available on weekends and holidays).
Private Lessons with Certified Coach (Missouri): Book with one of our Certified Instructors on our boat for $220 per hour. These must be booked online. You will pay an online deposit, and the remaining balance will be paid directly to your coach the day of the session.
Hourly Rate on Customer’s Wakeboard Specific Boat: (2 hour minimum required) $220 per hour + Travel Fee if applicable ($2.50 per mile one-way)
Cable Park Lesson at Revolution Cable Park: $150 per hour (cable pass not included)
*Important Note: The hourly rate begins when you leave the dock. If the normal cove we ski in is unsafe (ie. on a holiday or busy weekend), your coach will boat to a safer location which will be included in your time.
Is there a charge for each participant?
Lessons are done at a flat hourly rate. The rate is not a per-person rate, meaning you can share the hour(s) between participants. This includes Cable Park Lessons as we can accommodate up to three participants per hour on these.
How many hours should I reserve?
For those who already have basic skills learned, you can feel safe estimating about two people per hour. For first-timers we suggest estimating one hour per person.
What equipment should I bring?
Kirby’s School of Wake provides all equipment for the lessons upon request. Participant’s height and shoe size will be needed to have the proper size boards prepared. Please let us know if you have any other special requests such as tubing, surfing, etc. Please bring swimsuit and towel. If you already have a wakeboard feel free to bring what you are comfortable riding. Want suggestions on equipment, gear and more? Check out our Amazon Storefront!
Note: NO ALCOHOL is permitted on the boat for safety and liability reasons
How many guests can come along for the lesson?
Up to six passengers are allowed on lessons including the student(s). Do you have a larger group? Please contact us to inquire about options available.
How and when is payment taken?
Payment is taken in full when booking online (all except certified coach sessions). For sessions who manually reserved, payment is due in full upon the completion of the lesson. We accept cash, credit, Venmo, and Apple Pay.
What is your cancellation policy?
If you need to cancel your session, as a courtesy, please let us know as soon as possible. You will receive a 100% refund if canceled more than 72 hours prior to your scheduled lesson time. If you cancel within 72 hours of your lesson time, you’ll receive a 70% refund. If you cancel day-of, you’ll receive a 50% refund. If you are a no call, no show, no refund will be issued. If you need to cancel within the 72 hour window, you are granted one, non-refundable reschedule as an alternative to a partial refund.
Day Camps and All Girls Sessions are non-refundable. Lesson credit or refund may only be granted if the cancelled spot can be filled.
AWAKIN Camp is fully refundable until May 1. Following May 1, only a 50% refund will be granted unless the spot can be filled. If cancelled within two weeks of the event, no refund is granted for any reason.
What about bad weather?
Lessons are not cancelled due to inclement weather until the day of the session due to the ever-changing forecasts. Cancellations due to inclement weather are strictly under the discretion of the coach. Your coach will be in touch with you early morning the day of your session to make the call of if your session will be able to safely ensue. If the weather is unfavorable/unsafe and your lesson is called, you’re welcome to reschedule (availability depending), receive lesson credit for a future date, or receive a full refund.
